Speaker: Stephen Roberts, Chief Economist, Nomura Australia

Stephen Roberts has 35 years experience as an economist and financial market strategist in banking, broking and funds management. Stephen joined Grange Securities in November 2003, subsequently acquired by Lehman Brothers in March 2007 and then by Nomura Australia in September 2008.  

Previously, Stephen worked for 4 years with Westpac Investment Management/Sagitta/BT working mostly on long term asset allocation. Stephen has also worked over the past 10 years as Chief Economist with Equitilink, UBS, Fay Richwhite and SBC Australia. During the 1980s Stephen worked in Westpac as a Treasury Economist and in Treasury Management including experience in Westpac’s offices in New York and London.  

Stephen worked on the Secretariat of the Australian Financial System Inquiry (Campbell Committee) in 1980 helping to draft recommendations that led to the deregulation of the Australian financial system.

Stephen graduated from the London School of Economics in 1974 with an honours degree in monetary economics.
